Facilitators
and Producers
We call our GOAL facilitators and producers "superheroes" for a reason-- without you, high-quality staff learning simply could not happen! This page is full of resources and information to give you the tools you need to train with confidence.

Who are the Facilitator Superheroes?
Myths about being a Superhero:

1. Learning & Development approves and manages credit for all facilitators
No way! As the facilitator for the training, you have the power to award full, partial, or no credit for all trainings you run. Learning & Development can support you in managing your event credit, and participants will be directed back to you with questions about credits or attendance.

2. Only GOAL staff in leadership roles can become a trained Facilitator Superhero
Also false! GOAL's facilitators come from all job roles, including academic coaches, regional managers, administrative assistants, and even our communications and IT teams! If you have a passion for supporting staff learning, we'd love to have you on the team.

3. Being a Facilitator Superhero is too time-consuming to balance with my own professional learning requirements.
For many of us, training staff is a part of our job. If this is you, the Superheroes are here to support you! If training staff is not within your required job duties, you may be eligible to earn 3x the PL credit you offer to participants. Check out the Vector tutorial for help awarding yourself custom credit.
We use the term "Facilitator Superheroes" to describe a group of GOAL staff who have:
-
completed GOAL's Facilitator Certification Schoology course
-
Vector permissions to create and manage training events
-
access to a private Teams channel for support, announcements, and collaboration
-
skills to present or produce an interactive, engaging training
-
a passion for helping staff become the best they can be for our students!

Facilitators and Producers? What's the difference?
Just like the heist teams in the Ocean's 11 movies, you may also need specialists for each function of your live training event - usually a presenter/speaker and a producer. The presenter (or facilitator) has the presentation and activities to focus on. The producer attends to everything else. While you and your facilitating partners can split these roles any way you like, here are our suggestions:
Facilitator/Presenter
-
Subject matter expert
-
Role is to develop amazing content & deliver a valuable, interactive session
-
Focus is on helping participants reach session objectives
-
Sets session norms & expectations for earning credit, if any
Producer
-
Technical or facilitation expert
-
Role is to manage back-end, "behind the scenes" tasks before, during, and after the session
-
Focus is on supporting technical or interpersonal needs of the session
-
Manages session enrollments, credits, or other Vector-related tasks
Sharing roles
Facilitators and producers may switch roles during the session, especially if both are experts at the topic. This transition must happen seamlessly so as to not interrupt the flow of the session. There can be many benefits to switching it up!
-
Allows responsibility for different aspects of the session to be shared
-
Allows one person to focus on content while the other focuses on supports
-
Provides a peer with whom to prepare before and reflect after
-
Provides a peer to call on first when keeping the flow of the session running smoothly while giving participants time to think of their answer
-
Provides a peer in which to have a discussion with when participants are hesitant to respond
-
Allows participants to experience a variety of presenter strategies, approaches, and ideas. These various voices keep things engaging and lively!
Depending on the facilitator's comfort level, they may also share pre- and post-session producer duties like managing enrollments, awarding credits, or advertising their session.
How does the L&D Team support Facilitator Superheroes?
Think of the Learning & Development team like the Lucius Fox to your Batman. Of course, we don't have a Batmobile or any grappling hooks, but what we do have is a toolkit of amazing supports to help you do what you do best-- share your expertise with GOAL staff!

Tasks for Facilitator Superheroes Only
Just like Lucius Fox doesn't fight the Joker or the Riddler, Learning & Development is not able to offer support in a few areas. As a facilitator or producer, only you have the power to...
-
Approve attendance or credits for your training events
-
Advertise your training to staff
-
Create or manage your Vector event details
-
Determine whether your training is mandatory for certain job roles
-
Set and enforce expectations for earning credit beyond GOAL's 5 minumum requirements
-
Determine if your training is worth professional learning credit, and how much credit to award to each participant
We are happy to offer coaching or consulting if you need support in these areas! Please reach out to a member of our team with these needs.
